About Akasia Day

One Akasia. Many stories. One shared celebration.

Akasia Day was created by Mr Charles Mooke, a resident of more than 30 years in response to a simple opportunity: to give the area a unifying annual event that reflects its people, unlocks local economic activity and celebrates the strengths of its neighbourhoods. Under the theme “Unity in Our Roots,” the event welcomes different languages, generations, cultures and sectors into one shared programme.

Our purpose

What success should look like

A successful Akasia Day is not measured only by attendance. It is measured by people who discover a career pathway, vendors who win new customers, artists who reach new audiences, organisations that form useful partnerships and residents who leave feeling more connected to their community.
  • Build community cohesion and pride.

  • Expand practical opportunities for youth and learners.

  • Create customers and visibility for local SMMEs.

  • Celebrate cultural diversity and creative talent.

  • Position Akasia as an attractive community destination within Tshwane.
